Sunnyhill's Aftershocks Sprint

Our final addition to our female foundation herd is Sprint. She is a 2020 Cria born at Sunnyhill Alpacas in Alberta. Her dam is Snowmass Triple StarzXX and has a loaded Snowmass pedigree including Sonwmass Elite Legend and Snowmass Best Man. On her sires side is our very own Averegan's Aftershock. He is an outstanding black male from our very own Xanadu P Resolute and our Cimarron Gold Legend daughter. This combo produced the cutes light fawn femal that is well covered, boxy, great coverage and staple length and a buttery soft fleece with bundles of shiny crimp that is uniform across her entire body.
We sold Aftershock as a yearling and this is his first offspring we will have in our own herd.
What's special about him is his ability to produce Grand champion offspring again and again in black and in white with no colour contamination. A remarkable trait.
Thanks to our friends Kevin and Leanne for letting us have this beautiful little Resolute grandaughter

Miss Broadway Du DNA

Also added to the foundation herd this winter was Miss Broadway. Her sire is Averegan’s Magnus. Magus is a 2x Supreme champion out of Our Gold Legend daughter Memphis and Xanadu P. Resolute. Magnus was gorgeous, super fine, good density and shine for days. We sold him before we got a chance to use him. I’m thrilled DNA has had some outstanding offspring from him and when the chance came to buy a daughter I couldn’t pass it up.
Broadways dam is a Chananza daughter, so we expect she should just get better with age.
Broadway is adorable, big black eyes, soft buttery fleece and shine that comes straight from dad.
She is a lovely light fawn with a darker nose and super fuzzy ears. She is sweet and gentle loves to eat out of your hands and fit right into our her like she had always been there
As for potential breedings I have a few in mind already and can’t wait to see what she produces.

Arriba Amora

Amora, what can I say, I spotted this adorable face when I was Arriba when she was just a month old. She instantly caught my eye in the group and her fleece was so lovely and shiny. I was still thinking about her the next day and knew I had to negotiate with Lori to have her.
She is one of the first crias from Zotz Chico De Charlevoix and Lori’s gorgeous Cortez daughter Amelia. I have been a fan of Cortez for many years, His crias are all extremely good looking and have the ability to throw exceptional blacks. Chico on the other hand was one of the cites crias I have ever seen and has a incredible bloodline. Lori was hoping he would throw Appaloosas and as luck would have it he sure did. And all girls!!! Amora is a taupey fawn with a dark spot on her nose and a little white headband. With her genetics I think the future colour combinations should be very interesting

Say Hello to Arriba Winona

As I mentioned in my previous post this past fall we are thrilled to say that our favourite male Averegan’s Argo has been chosen as the newest herdsire at Arriba Linea Alpacas. She has an outstanding grey and black program and he will be a great addition to her lineup. Not to mention he will get a lot more work at Lori’s place. He has spent a couple summers with Lori breeding and according to her, he walks in find the highest spot to stand on just like he owns the place. He is close by for us to visit so that a great thing as well. We couldn’t let Argo go without negotiating with Lori to have Arriba Winona. Winona was the first Argo cria born out of Lori’s top black producer Willomina.
Winona is gorgeous, looks just like her dad and is an absolute sweetheart. She has some great black names in her pedigree and we are hoping to try her with grey in the hopes of creating something amazing. She is just approaching 2 and we are going to have fun picking out males over the next few years to breed her to.
It is a shame that we couldn’t show her because of covid-19 as I am sure she would have done incredibly well.

Lady Geiger of Grazing Hills

Lady Geiger with Kamylah

Lady Geiger with Kamylah

The second new addition we added to our foundation girls was Lady Geiger. She is a bit older female at 9 years of age she is the daughter of Guin and 1/2 sister to some of our outstanding blacks Argo, Argonaught, and Atticus. We sold Guin in 2019 and with the sale this year of Argo I was looking to ad some of that line back into my herd especially with a daughter as Guin gave me nothing but boys while I owned her. Lady G is out of Accoyos of America Diomedes and the Nautilus line. Lady G is built like a tank, huge bone, gorgeous head and a real fleece machine. She shears tons of fibre every year and is remaining fine with a low SD and low CV. We chose to have her bred to Black Hills Gangster for 2021 in the hopes of crossing that Diomedes line with Gangster and possibly creating another Outlaw Alyst. We feel even at 9 she has many more years of breeding and our next decision is who to breed her back to.Her 2015 female cria was absolutely stunning with more fibre than I have ever seen on a cria. I miss Guin terribly but happy to still have her daughter to carry on

2020 New additions to the herd

Fall 2020

Fall 2020

2020 was a year of growth and a year of change at Averegan. We saw a market for new farms that were looking for proven genetics and bred girls that’s were easy keepers and good moms. So we were able to help set up these farms with some of our older but favourite girls. This left a substantial gap on our own foundation herd. The next few post are going to showcase the newest additions to our farm.
For those of you in the know we added Xanadu P. Resolute as our main herdsire in 2010. Although he had produced wonderfully for me unfortunately he likes to give me mostly males. Supreme champion males I might add but males nonetheless.
As Resolute approaches 15 this year it reminds me that I may not have many more years of offspring from him. So the mission in 2020 was to add Resolute granddaughters to the herd.

First up was Sunnyhill’s Conopas Solo.

Solo is from Snowmass Conopa, and Sunnyhill’s Salute. Salute is a beautiful fine Resolute daughter. Salute has Faith Bar on her dams side, Faith is one of my original females I bought from judge Jane Tellier many years ago. Faith has given me many daughters and multiple champions and supremes. Not the prettiest old girl but what she brings is uniformity and incredible shine to her offspring has been invaluable.
Solo has been bred to MFI &TNT Peruvian Foundation for her first cria in 2021 the crias of Resolute and Foundation is amazing and with Conopa as Solo’s sire this cria is sure to be a knockout.

New Year, new goals

As we reflect back on 2020 we can appreciate the highs and the lows of the last year. It’s not to say that there were definitely some challenges, but we learned to be more fluid or roll with the changes.
2020 was a year of change in more ways than 1. We have had to reevaluate our business/breeding plan, to try to remain current.
We have opened an on farm store stocked with all our favourite Alpaca items, and trying to stay true to our goal of using as much of our own fiber to make our products. We have been busy establishing our new product line called Uniquely Alpaca, which is dedicated to products that have been made from our animals, by us they include knitted items and felted products, we are proud of what we are producing and look forward to growing this line. Going forward we hope to get an online presence established and expand our product line to include more clothing pieces and some home decor items.
Stay tuned the future looks bright

ALPACA ONTARIO SPRING SHOW 2016

Averegan's Merida

Averegan's Merida

It was an awesome showing this weekend for all! A big thanks to all the volunteers for working hard and other farms for bringing great competition! We brought 20 animals on the trailer to this show with Hubbert Farms, Sunnyhill Alpacas and Alpagas Chelsea. With the lovely judges Arturo Pena and Robin Nasemann, the entire show was a great time with lots of public interest. Here at Averegan we took 3 animals, and started off the showing with Averegan's Magnus, taking a first in the toughest class of the day of the juvenile fawn males. He followed suit with a Reserve Champion Fawn Male warranting remarks from the judges about his incredible consistency, style and brightness. Next was Averegan's Helix with a fifth in the biggest class of the day of juvenile white males! He had a great showing with comments on his awesome fineness, staple length and handsome phenotype. And as a grand finale, our favourite Averegan's Merida did it again! Granting an easy first in her class and not having enough fawn females for Champion, we were nervous going into the Supreme Female round. However, after a few comparisons and some whispered chatter between the judges, Merida was chosen to win her third high title of Supreme. Comments of her incredible staple length, fantastic crimping and staple, not to mention her extremely pleasing frame (she looked like a male) and she had the judges favour. We are VERY pleased to own this female and she'll attend one more show in Quebec and she'll come home to start her mothering career.
Sunnyhill Alpacas also had an awesome show! Winning a third in the tough fawn male class with Sunnyhill's Conopa's Ecio, a second in the killer fawn female class with Sunnyhill's Conopa's Lexus and a first with Sunnyhill's Prince in the juvenile grey class. With positive comments all around, we are proud to be selling these three animals for Sunnyhill Alpacas in Alberta. They sent some of their best so check them out!
Congratulations to everyone !
