Navan Show 2015

Supreme Champion Merida

Supreme Champion Merida

On the sixth and seventh of August we headed up to Navan Ottawa to attend the 11th Navan Fair Alpaca Show. With an astounding 80+ entries in the Composite Halter portion and 70+ in the Fleece Show, we were very happy to participate in such a successful show! The show committee did a fantastic job at check-in, announcing, making sure no one missed their classes, and were open and happy to take all suggestions and concerns. Here at Averegan we'd like to take a second to thank all sponsors, committee members and judge Diana Timmerman!
We had a fantastic showing as did our partners over at Hubbert farms! All animals behaved like angels and the weather was lovely and cool for them. We took 11 animals between us, one of every colour excluding grey. We also brought and showed an animal for client Alpacajoy of Norway. We extend our congratulations to both farms on their awards!

First Cria of 2015

Here she is...first cria of 2015 a lovely white female out of our Shamroc daughter Lola and Arriba Linea's award winning male Aqeeto.
As you can see she is adorable, was a beautiful day and the delivery was textbook, just how we like them. I amazes me every year how nervous I still get when I see that bubble, especially the first few, I guess i have to get my birthing legs every season.
Lola is a great mom, very attentive and the baby is gaining a steady half pound every day.

After Shearing Picture

Stratus and Boogie

Stratus and Boogie

Shearing is done for another year, I love how clean they all look, and they must feel a ton better now that the warmer weather is coming.
I always laugh at how funny and different the crias look after their first shear, some of them forget how to walk without all that fleece and all of them roll in the first dirt hole they can find.

Pre shearing pictures

Tywin

Tywin

Well as we get ready for our first show quickly followed by shearing I knew there wasn't going to much time next week to get pre shearing pictures. Yesterday's weather was gorgeous and sunny, so camera in hand we set out to take some pics before all that gorgeous baby fleece some off.
They just never look the same after that
Enjoy

February Halter Training

Marina

Marina

Well one sure way to beat the winter blahs is halter training...i laugh because it can be anything but fun. For the most part all the kids eventually learn that the halter means you get to go place and see things, but there is always one or two who will fight the whole process tooth and nail. Those are animals I believe are sent here to teach me patience :)

Its's been a while

Merida

Merida

Well I guess life gets busy, good thing we have cold winter days to be able to sit down and catch up on things...we are still loving the whole alpaca lifestyle, every year we are seeing the fruits of our labours and are improving our animals all the time. It is fun to look back on some of our past animals, you know the ones you thought were fantastic, the ones you were really excited about showing, and seeing those fleeces compared to today, It makes you proud to see the hard work you put in is paying off.
Here is a few pictures of our 2014 cria crop from last summer...enjoy

Merida

Merida is the first cria born to Memphis (our dark Gold Legend daughter) and our main herdsire, Xanadu P. Resolute. She was the first cria born this year and the only one we didn't get to see born. We were at our cottage and missed the birth by about 20 minutes. Memphis has been a great mommy lots of milk very attentive, yet still lets us check her baby and weigh her. Merida is sweet, born with a beautiful head style, she is not as dark as I had hoped but her fleece is very organized, fine and showing early signs of character. She was born with pretty wonky little ears, we taped them with vet wrap for a couple days and they look just fine now. We have been shearing some of our crias the past couple years, we are going to be shearing more as we go. Memphis herself had almost 8 inches of fleece by shearing time and actually is in the top 1% EPD for staple length and fleece weight. With this in mind we sheared her at about 2 weeks old. When we shear cria's of first time moms, we shear them on one side, while mom watches at a safe distance and then return the cria to nurse and bond with mom, then we shear the other half, just to ensure that mom doesn't reject her little on.
Merida is growing well and has the same sweet temperament as her mom. We liked this combo so much that we repeated it for 2015.
Here are a few pics or Merida as she has grown this past year. As you can see she is a stunner

Shamroc is going to Quebec!

CONGRATULATIONS and THANK YOU to Ariya Alpacas for their purchase of Shamroc Alyst!
We give a HUGE shout out to our friends down in Quebec at Ariya alpacas for their purchase of our loved and adored herdsire Sham. He is a lovely little gem and it's hard to let go of him but we know he is going to be used to his potential! We hope THE BEST for your breeding program and hope he produces many years of spectacular offspring for you.
Thank you once again.
